Environmental Stewardship and Your Bottom Line

The last workshop was scheduled for 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon in Tampa.  As my friend Joellen Lampman of Audubon International said "when I saw the time slot, I figured two people might show-up"  She was wrong her presentation on Environmental Stewardship and Your Bottom Line had good attendance, although all of us were happy we could finally get outside in the warm Florida air again.

Joellen Lampman is a champion for the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program.  Their not-for-profit environmental organization focuses on sustainable development, resource management and community engagement.

TAKE AWAY:

  • Cemeteries can attract new friends, save money on operations, and enhance their local community by working with the natural environment
  • Many areas facing pesticide ban for cosmetic use, fertilizer restrictions, water restrictions, storm water fees so having an environmental plan that eliminates pesticides, fertilizer use, and uses reclaimed water and uses native plants can save money, help the environment, and attract appreciating customers.
  • Check DSIRE USA for a list of Incentives from local and state on Renewables and Efficiency.
  • Check you State and Local Natural plant guides
  • Best to let grass grow to 3" and maintain, less weeds, stronger
  • 71% of all Americans consider the environment when shopping
  • 78% will boycott you, when a claim of yours is found to be a lie
  • Need Wildlife pictures on our web sites
  • Workshops for a cemetery can include Bird Box building

OK the workshops are over, the speakers are finished from the ICCFA Expo, but I still have some unexpected vendors to share with you tomorrow.
